What is a value proposition?

In a nutshell, a value proposition is a clear statement that explains how your product solves customers' problems or improves their situation, the benefits of your product or service, and tells the customer why they should use your product and not the competition.


Why does it need to be clear?

Your value proposition has to be clear and concise in order for you to get the attention of your potential customer. Think about it... every day you are competing with so many distractions to get the attention of your customers. You literally have a few seconds to make an impression (assuming you have their attention) and if the way you describe what you do is even a little bit confusing; you will lose out on a potential customer. If your value proposition is not clear, your customers will buy from the competition.


How do you make your value proposition clear?

You make your value proposition clear by ensuring that everywhere you talk about your product or service, you speak to the definition above. Inform clients what problem you are solving for them, the benefits of your product/ service and why you are better at helping them with it than your competition.


It is good to differentiate yourself and be unique. However, make sure that your customers care about the thing that makes your business unique.
