Why networking matters

Networking... one of the areas that many small business owners neglect. Before people can make use of your services or buy your products, they need to know about your business. Many times people do not know about your business because you are not talking about it enough.

Attending networking events where you can meet potential investors, suppliers, partners and clients is very important for your business. As a small business, you need as much exposure as you can get. It can be seen as a "waste of time," however you never know who you can meet. In my experience, I have received great advice from other business owners or met possible contacts who can help with my business.

The second part that you need to consider is making sure that you attend events where you can benefit as a business owner or events that are specific to your industry. Don't attend every event, your time is precious as an entrepreneur. Be selective about which events you attend, but make sure it is part of your business development strategy.

In terms of your approach to a networking event, think about how you can help and add value to the other party. Don't focus only on what you get out of the potential relationship.
